The hard-fought competition to take Mayfair’s position on the new Spanish Monopoly board has been won by Estepona.

The public made a total of 16,589,649 votes over a two month period to decide on the locations for the new board.  Of the total votes cast, Estepona came top with 571,778.

Mijas will also join Estepona on the new edition of the popular board game after coming tenth with 189,754 votes.

The number of votes cast for the two Costa del Sol towns highlight their growing popularity in Spain on a national level.

Marketing manager at Hasbro Iberia, Ignacio Gaitán said he was “proud to be one of the few countries in the world with our own Monopoly board.”

The special edition will be on sale ready for Christmas with the complete line up being: Estepona, Alcobendas, Alcorcón, San Fernando, Elda, Utrera, Cartagena, Torrejón de Ardoz, Paterna, Mijas, Logroño, Guadalajara, Linares, Boadilla del Monte, Ponferrada, Zaragoza, Salamanca, Elche, Mérida, Alicante, Pedroso and Arevalillo de Cega.
