Marbella this month celebrated the eighth annual 'Smart Living Marbella’ International Congress, highlighting technological developments linked to leisure and entertainment and placing the city "as a spearhead in innovation”.
During the opening ceremony, the mayor stressed that Marbella, "has established itself as a national and international reference in terms of new technologies." He also emphasised that Marbella "is a leading city in the tourism sector, so putting new technologies at the forefront of the leisure industry is fundamental in order to offer better services to our visitors and to consolidate our image of excellence".
This eighth edition of the congress was focused around people and technology, specifically entertainment technology, linking the idea of smart cities being fun cities. As the mayor stressed, ”the mission is to help create smart cities where technology makes people happy”, adding that "Marbella is set to become the capital of such fun intelligent cities."
The congress benefitted from a range of prestigious speakers covering topics focused on technologies, services and the infrastructure needed to achieve smart cities. It also covered the contribution that innovation and communication technologies make in economic and social progress and development.
The director of telecommunications and information for the Andalusian Government, Manuel Ortigosa, also confirmed that the Andalusian Government is currently working with the Marbella city council, together with Vodafone Spain, to develop a pilot project to boost public services.
