The mayor of Mijas, Juan Carlos Maldonado, and the councillor for Tourism, Fuensanta Lima, have been representing Mijas at the International Tourism Fair of Berlin (ITB) this month. Maldonado commented that due to security issues in destinations such as Turkey and Egypt there has been an increase of visits to southern Spain and as such ”it is essential for Mijas to be present at this important German forum”, adding that “we must also work in German residential tourism, especially given the uncertainty that has been generated in Andalucia as a result of Brexit”.
For her part, Lima highlighted what they have been doing this month in Berlin. "We have met with tour operators and agencies operating in Germany, among them important companies such as TSS Group and TUI, and our businessmen have also been seeking our institutional support. The ITB is one of the largest European tourism fairs which, apart from the sun and beach, is centred around golf ".
Throughout the ITB, representatives have been promoting this year’s new slogan for the municipality: 'Mijas, sensations all year round’. The idea behind this new marketing campaign is to showcase the full range of possibilities offered by the municipality 365 days a year and to position itself among the most attractive destinations in the Mediterranean.
The Mijas businessmen who attended the fair have been very optimistic with the German market and in the meetings they have had with a range of tour operators.
Mijas is becoming more and more consolidated in international tourism fairs and the City Council aims to continue its work during 2017 with a Direct Action Plan aimed at projecting the wealth of possibilities the municipality has to offer throughout 365 days of the year - a plan that will be focused on the value of sun and beach, golf and the typical Andalusian white towns.
