Campeones Junior, the children’s football club, run voluntarily by members of the Estepona community and sponsored by Siesta Homes, finished the end of its 6th season with yet another successful tournament. Over 220 people came out for the tournament and 50 volunteers from Estepona’s Healing Place Church served refreshments and provided entertainment for the crowds.
Campeones Junior is the brainchild of a local father who wanted to see his child play in a football team. After seeing his son being rejected from teams due to lack of skills, he decided to hire a pitch for himself and invite children to play for free. Immediately, children from all walks of life were approaching him to play, all of them with one thing in common; they had all experienced rejection from local football teams for reasons ranging from poverty to family problems. Most thought they would never be part of a football team.
Six years on and the club is helping over 100 children achieve their dream of being part of a team sport, valued not just by their peers and the community, but more importantly valued by themselves.
This September will mark the start of the fourth season of Siesta Homes’ involvement with the club. Siesta Homes is a proud sponsor of Campeones Junior and provides equipment, marketing assistance and financial support.
