Mijas Council this month welcomed the arrival of Swiss investors to the municipality. The mayor of Mijas, Juan Carlos Maldonado, met with the Honorary Consul of Switzerland, Thomas Hänni, and a group of business professionals to discuss business niches in the locality. “We have detected the interest of Swiss investors in the Costa del Sol and we intend to consolidate Mijas as their chosen place to invest. Recently we have been promoting tourism to the Central European market and we must also do the same with the business sector“ stated Maldonado. He added that "there needs to be synergy between the private and public sector for business options to work and generate employment”.

The strategic location of Mijas in the heart of the Costa del Sol offers great potential for development and urban expansion, besides being the meeting point of the coastal municipalities. What Mijas offers is highly attractive for Central European entrepreneurs who want to invest. The area of most interest to Swiss entrepreneurs is tourism. “We have had most enquiries about the hotel industry. Normally, after studying the sector and analysing business opportunities, this area is the most popular among Swiss who are looking to invest in Mijas" said Maldonado.

Although the Swiss market lacks a significant residential population in the Costa del Sol, it carries enormous potential due to its large number of entrepreneurs. More and more young Swiss entrepreneurs with high economic resources are deciding to move their residence to the south of Spain.

The Honorary Consul of Switzerland is optimistic about the potential of investing in Mijas, stating that ”we want to find solutions to the business demands that have opened in the Swiss market with regards to Mijas. The climate, infrastructure, security and communications, reinforced by direct flights from Malaga to Geneva, are factors that can bring projects to fruition".
